PICTURES AS PRACTICE

From the very beginning of my joy practice, taking and sharing the photographs I take every day has been healing, hopeful, and happy! After years of feeling that I could not "be a photographer", I realized that I AM a photographer . . . in that I take pictures of things that bring me joy. These are the pictures I post on Instagram every day, and they are the surest barometer and expression my joy. If you're casting around for a joy practice that works for you, try this. I'm pretty sure you will LOVE it!

Dear Summer, No, you are not my favorite season. But your flowers!! How could I not fall for the Technicolor spectacle of your flowers? Mad with joy, as Iris Murdoch wrote. That’s how your flowers make me feel, dear Summer. Your floral apostles
Dear Horror Fans and Friends, After a long break from cons & festivals over the past four years, I spent the last three weekends with you in MA, PA, and CA. As many of you know, I always say, “I may not like horror films but I LOVE horror f
Dear Mom and Dad, I channeled a little bit of both of you today, albeit fairly poorly (costumes — forgot to take off the Apple Watch; acting — forgot I’m not an actor LOL). But I sure had a blast doing it. Meet Ruth Bridges, author
Dear Poe/Corman/Price/AIP Fans, I just had the loveliest conversation with Barbara Steele at @midsummerscream. She is so funny, quick, and gorgeous! She and my dad must have had such fun working together. Thought you’d enjoy this pic. Hope to s
Dearest Dada, This is one of my absolute favorite photos of us, because it so clearly captures how much we loved each other. I know exactly where this pic was taken. On the Queen Mary in Long Beach, where we came for special occasions. This was on th
